Community Outreach Assistant

 

Join our St. Andrew’s United Church team as the Community Outreach Assistant.  We are located in North Vancouver near Lion’s Gate Hospital.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with volunteer team at Thursday community lunches.
  • Assist with St. Andrew’s weekly drop-in and bread distribution programs.
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee provision of Wednesday summer brunches for clients
  • at Vancouver Food Bank’s North Shore Hub.
  • Assist with Sunday morning hospitality hour and children’s church activities.
  • Coordinate and promote St. Andrew’s 14th Annual Teddy Bear Picnic on June 22.
  • Manage 2019 church community gardening program.

Liaise with, and welcome, user groups to St. Andrew’s and provide assistance as required.

Provide administrative support in the office such as answering the phone, photocopying, and other tasks as time permits.

 

Qualifications:

  • Some post-secondary education.
  • Ability to work well independently and with others.
  • Responsible, willing to learn, personable and friendly.
  • Emergency or Standard First Aid Certificate (or willing to get one immediately).

 

This position is dependent on funding from 2019 Canada Summer Jobs program for youth. Applicants must be 30 years old or under.

 

Salary: $17.00 per hour (30 hours/week)

End Date: Friday, August 18, 2019

Children and Family Ministry Coordinator

 

Join our St. Andrew’s United Church team as the Children and Family Ministry Coordinator. We are located in North Vancouver near Lion’s Gate Hospital.

 

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Minister, develops an age-appropriate and theologically progressive
    children’s curriculum for Children’s Church
  • Develops stimulating interactive lessons for Children’s Church based on the Bible and liturgical
    seasons, appropriately enhanced through nature study, story-telling, crafts, music, dance and
    other disciplines
  • Attends the opening of worship services, leads children downstairs for Children’s Church and
    returns with the children for communion
  • Provides a pastoral presence to individual children as needed
  • Supports family events involving children—i.e. Teddy Bear Picnic, intergenerational services,
    Spooky Halloween, Christmas pageant
  • Communicates weekly with parents of children attending Children’s Church
  • Writes and contributes information for St. Andrew’s weekly E-News, newsletter, and website as
    requested

 

Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education training OR formal teaching qualifications OR equivalent work
    experience in teaching and providing programs for children (camp or church setting or
    after school care is applicable)
  • Experience/history in the United Church of Canada OR in another Christian
    denomination
  • Understanding of child development, particularly faith development
  • Ability to work well independently and with others
  • Microsoft Office skills (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint). WordPress, Twitter,
    Facebook skills an asset

 

Salary: $19.00 per hour (6 hours weekly)

Children and Family Ministry Assistant

  • Supports family events involving children—i.e. Teddy Bear Picnic, intergenerational services,
    Spooky Halloween, Christmas pageant

 

Qualifications:

  • Work experience in teaching and providing programs for children (camp or church
    setting or after school care is applicable)
  • Experience/history in the United Church of Canada OR in another Christian
    denomination
  • Warm, accessible, and enthusiastic
  • Comfortable caring for infant and toddlers, pre-school and school-aged children

 

Salary: $16.00 per hour (4 hours weekly)
