Colonialism’s impact on Children on Turtle Island and in Palestine/Israel

“Learn – Take Action” – at St. Andrew’s United Church,

1044 St. Georges, North Vancouver

March 28, April 4, 7:30 pm.  April 8 1 pm.

One way of looking at the challenges we face as a people is through the lens of “colonialism”.  The first session we will listen to its effects on the lives of two people – indigenous leader, Rev. Stan McKay and Palestinian Canadian, Robert Massoud and ask ourselves about how colonialism has played out in our own lives and history.

The second session we will focus on indigenous children in Canada – particularly on the current issues of children in care and inequality of financial support for education.  Cindy Blackstock has worked tirelessly to raise this issue and now Minister of Indigenous Services, Jane Philpott, seems committed to working to make change.

The third session we will focus on Palestinian children and the control that Israel exercises over them.  The December 19th arrest of Ahed Tamimi is of worldwide interest.  350 other Palestinian children are in Israeli military prisons.  Learn about the No Way to Treat A Child Campaign – its philosophy, goals and how to encourage action.

While we encourage people to take all 3 sessions, it is possible to come for individual sessions.
